horse_44PASSPORTS: Exhibitors must ensure that passports are brought with each Horse/Pony in their care.
PLEASE NOTE: In all ridden Classes, horses and ponies must be four years old or over, and mare or gelding, unless otherwise stated. Riders must have attained their 3rd birthday before 1st January 2017. Should a rider fall off in the ring, both pony and rider must leave the ring dismounted and take no further part in that class (except in handy pony classes). Handlers under the age of 14 are not permitted to show colts or stallions born before 1st January 2017.
HATS, RIDING – Anyone riding a pony/horse at any show must wear a riding hat. In all classes it is strongly recommended that competitors over the age 16 wear skull caps or riding hats in accordance with the current approved BSI or European standard. It is mandatory for competitors up to and including the age of 16 to wear a correctly secured riding hat to the current approved BSI or European standard. In Hand, it is mandatory for competitors up to and including the age of 16 to wear a correctly secured riding hat to the current approved BSI or European standard.
SPURS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED IN ANY SHOW RING.
ALSO: The substitution of catalogued entries after the closing date will not be permitted, and no refunds will be given.

HORSE & PONY CLASSES

Judging Commences 9.00am Entries £6.00 unless otherwise stated.
Prizes: 1st £10; 2nd £6; 3rd £4; 4th £2 for all classes unless otherwise stated.
Unless otherwise stated all classes are restricted to mares & geldings, 4years and over

PLEASE NOTE: Entries close 30th August 2017. Exhibitor’s numbers will be available from the Secretary after 8.00 am on Show Day
Subscriptions of £15 or over for 2 admission tickets and a car pass. One admission ticket per exhibitor for £6 or more of entry fees. To receive tickets, a stamped self-addressed envelope must be enclosed with entry.

LOCAL RIDING CLASS

H2. PONIES NOT EXCEEDING 147cm (14-2hh), RIDDEN BY CHILDREN 16YEARS AND UNDER on show day, restricted to owners, riders and ponies who live within an 8 mile radius of Bowes. To be judged 50% rider and turnout, 50% pony.
The A E Alderson Garage Services Perpetual Challenge Cup (1), kindly donated by P Alderson, will be held by the winner for one year.

CHILD’S FIRST PONY OF PONY CLUB/ HUNTER TYPE

Judging to follow H2 not before 9.30am. – Rosettes for all competitors

A Special Rosette will be presented for the highest placed member of the Zetland Hunt Branch of the Pony Club in each class in the Child’s First Pony section. (Please indicate “ZHPC Member” on entry forms)
PLEASE NOTE: Ponies entered in the Show Hunter Pony Classes may NOT enter the Child’s First Pony Classes. Each child and pony combination may only enter ONE Child’s First Pony class. Ponies must be four years and over
In classes 3, 4, & 5 competitors may be asked to include a small jump as part of their individual show.
Class H3 is a qualifier for the Lead Rein Final at the CHAPS (UK) Championship. Qualification will be awarded to the highest placed CHAPS (UK) Registered LR exhibit, owned and ridden by CHAPS (UK) showing members, which has not already qualified, from within class placings. CHAPS (UK) rules apply – see Coloured Horse Section.
H3. PONY 127CM (12-2hh) AND UNDER most suitable as child’s first pony, to be judged at least 50% on manners, to be ridden by a child born in or after 2006. To be led by an attendant and shown in a snaffle bridle, the lead rein to be attached by the noseband only. Prizes in this class are kindly donated by Michael and Ann Marie Robinson
H4. PONY 127CM (12-2hh) AND UNDER most suitable as child’s first pony, to be judged at least 50% on manners, to be ridden by a child born in or after 2003. To be shown in a snaffle bridle and NO LEAD REINS. The prizes in this class are kindly donated by the Period House Store Company.
H5. PONY EXCEEDING 127CM (12-2hh) AND UNDER 147CM (14-2hh) most suitable as child’s first pony, to be judged at least 50% on manners, to be ridden by a child born in or after 1999. To be shown in a snaffle bridle, NO LEAD REINS.

CHAMPIONSHIP: 1ST and 2nd prize winners from classes H3, H4 and H5, to be judged for the J. D. Dowson Memorial Challenge Cup (3), to be held by the winner for one year.

H6 A) FAMILY HORSE OF RIDING CLUB HUNTER TYPE, EXCEEDING 147CM (14-2hh) suitable to be ridden by any member of the family, to be shown in a snaffle bridle, to be judged at least 50% on manners and temperament. Rider any age. The judge may wish to ride entries herself as part of the judging process. The winner to hold the Tranter Challenge Cup (37) for one year only. Rosettes for all entries. All prizes for this class have been presented by Carrs Billington in the form of vouchers.

B) RETRAINED RACEHORSES. ( ROR) (Judge: tbc)

RoR /TARRA RIDDEN SHOW SERIES QUALIFIER

Open to all Weatherbys (or relevant foreign thoroughbred authority) registered Thoroughbreds raced or unraced (passports may be checked) 4yrs and over owned and ridden by an amateur. Racing name of horse to be used on entry form. Horses must be registered with RoR and have a RoR number which has to be stated on the entry form. Class will be judged under a ‘riding horse’ format without ‘type’ being taken into consideration. Injuries and blemishes caused through racing will be ignored. The first three horses will qualifier. The judge may ride.
This is a qualifier for the TARRA Ridden Championship.
1-4th `rosettes with a prize for 1st place.

RoR/TARRA IN HAND SHOW SERIES QUALIFIER

Open to all Weatherbys (or relevant foreign thoroughbred authority) registered Thoroughbreds raced or unraced (passports may be checked) any age owned and shown by an amateur. Racing name of horse and RoR number to be used on entry form. Horses must be registered with RoR and have a RoR number which has to be stated on the entry form. Class will be judged under a normal in-hand format with injuries and blemishes caused through racing will be overlooked. The first three horses will qualify.
This is a qualifier for the TARRA In-Hand Championship.
1-4th rosettes with a prize for 1st place.

TARRA Amateur definition 2017: An individual who has not received any remuneration, from the showing, riding or production of show horses in the last 5 years, sponsorship included. Individuals employed in other equestrian disciplines shall be classified as amateurs for the sake of the TARRA show series. Riders are not to have competed at HOYS in an open showing class, in the previous 10 years. (‘Search for a Star’ competitors are exempt)

C) RIDING CLUB HORSE, EXCEEDING 147CM (14-2hh) suitable to compete at all riding club activities especially dressage, show jumping and cross country. Horses may be asked to jump a small jump (maximum height 65cm )

CHILDREN’S RIDING CLASSES

H7. LEAD REIN BEST RIDER, riders not to have attained 8th birthday before 1st January 2017. To be led by an attendant and shown in a snaffle bridle, the lead rein to be attached by the noseband only.

All Equitation classes will be judged on riding ability alone and competitors will NOT be required to jump, but may be required to ride without stirrups according to the judge’s requirements.

H8. RIDERS NOT ATTAINED 11TH BIRTHDAY before 1st January 2017. Mare or Gelding 4 years old and over not exceeding 147 cms (14-2hh).
H9. RIDERS 11 TO 15 YEARS on 1st January 2017. Mare or Gelding 4years old and over, any height.
H10. RIDERS 16 YEARS TO 18 YEARS on 1st January 2017. Mare or Gelding 4 years and over, any height. The prizes in this class are kindly donated by Mellwaters Barn

HANDY PONY CLASSES

To be Judged on time over a course of hazards and obstacles, failure to negotiate any obstacle will invoke time penalties. Competitors in Handy Pony classes are advised to come to the Handy Pony ring as soon as possible. Ponies must be four years and over.
H11. RIDER UNDER 8 YEARS on show day. Entrants may be led by an attendant and shown in a snaffle bridle, the lead rein to be attached by the noseband only. The Ellwood’s Challenge Cup (4) to be held by the winner for one year.
H12. RIDER 8 YEARS TO 11 YEARS on show day. Jumps 60cm maximum. The Ellwood’s Challenge Cup (5) to be held by the winner for one year.
H13.(a) RIDER 12 YEARS TO 16 YEARS on show day. Jumps 75cm maximum. The
Ellwood’s Challenge Cup (6) to be held by the winner for one year.
H13.(b) RIDER OVER 16 YEARS on show day. Jumps 75cm maximum.
The GILTHORPE CUP (6a) to be held by the winner for one year.

COLOURED HORSES

Judging 10.30am

This show is affiliated to The Coloured Horse and Pony Society (UK). Both owner and the rider/exhibitor need not be a member of CHAPS(UK). nor must the horse or pony be registered with CHAPS (UK) to compete. These classes are also qualifiers for Ponies(UK) Summer Championships ( please refer to your CHAPS Handbook.)
The CHAPS (UK) Championship Show will be held from 30th August to 2nd September 2017. Shows held on or after the date of the Championship show will count as 2018 qualifiers. Members to apply in writing to CHAPS(UK) for appropriate qualifier card. The following classes, H15 to H19 inclusive, are CHAPS (UK) qualifiers. For full rulings and information on competition/qualification, please refer to the CHAPS(UK) member’s handbook or visit www.chapsuk.com for rulings.
All stallions entering these classes must be graded with CHAPS(UK). Riders and handlers of all competing stallions must comply with CHAPS (UK) rules.
Qualification cards – please note that it is important that judges must sign all qualification cards in the ring at the time of the competition. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to obtain from CHAPS(UK) (Admin), and to carry with them their qualification and membership cards. These cards must be a 2018 qualifier card. Competitors are required to have their qualification card signed by the judge and returned to CHAPS(UK).
This show is a qualifier for the P(UK) Winter Classic 2018 and the Supreme Championships 2017. The 1st, 2nd & 3rd placed horses/ponies in each class will qualify. Competitors in qualifying positions, who are not current Adult Members, must become a member before time of entry. Qualification cards will be awarded in the ring and Golden Tickets will be given to the winner/champion of each flat ridden affiliated section. Placings will be confirmed by results forwarded by the Show Secretary

Classes open to CHAPS (UK) members and non-members.

H14. COLOURED HORSE OR PONY OF ANY AGE to be judged on colour and markings. This class is not a qualifier for the P(UK) or CHAPS(UK). Prizes in this class are kindly donated by Robin and Gillian Tallentire

Classes 15, 16, and 17 are qualifiers for P(UK) Winter Classic 2018 and P(UK) Supreme Championship 2018. Commanchee Piebald/Skewbald In Hand Supreme Championship. In classes 15 and 16 entrants must be 4 years old and over to qualify.
The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each qualifying class will qualify. No qualification cards will be awarded in the ring, placings will be confirmed by results forwarded by the Show Secretary

H15 The CHAPS (UK) Non-Native Open In-hand Qualifier. Open to non-native exhibits, any height, any age, to be shown plaited and trimmed. Qualification will be awarded to the highest placed CHAPS UK Registered eligible exhibit exceeding or likely to exceed 153cms. and the highest placed eligible exhibit not exceeding or not likely to exceed 153cms which has not already qualified, from within the rosette placings. The relevant in-hand box on the qualification card must be signed for the qualification to be valid.
H16 The CHAPS (UK) Native, Cob, Traditional Open In-hand Qualifier. Open to native, cob, traditional, vanner exhibits any height, any age. Qualification will be awarded to the highest placed CHAPS UK Registered eligible exhibit exceeding or likely to exceed 148cms. and the highest placed eligible exhibit not exceeding, or not likely to exceed 148cms, which has not already qualified from within the rosette placings. The relevant in-hand box on the qualification card must be signed for the qualification to be valid.

H17. The CHAPS (UK) Open Youngstock Qualifier. Open to any height or type of coloured youngstock, yearlings, two year old or three year olds. (no foals). Qualifications will be awarded to the highest placed eligible non-native yearling, two year old and three year old ; together with the highest placed native, cob, traditional, vanner type yearling, two year old and three year old which have not already qualified, irrespective of rosette placings. (i.e. if any age/ category/type is not represented within the rosettes, then the next highest eligible of the age/category/ type not represented, will qualify – that is to say, a total of 6 eligible exhibits may qualify) The relevant youngstock box on the qualification card must be signed for the qualification to be valid.

Classes 18 and 19 are qualifiers for P(UK) Winter Classic 2018 and P(UK) Supreme Championship 2018, Commanchee Ridden Piebald /Skewbald Horse/Pony Supreme Championship

H18 The CHAPS (UK) Non-Native Open Ridden Qualifier. Open to non-native exhibits, any height, 4 years old or over. Rider any age but suitable for height of exhibit (except for stallions). Lead rein exhibits are not eligible for this class. Qualification will be awarded to the highest placed CHAPS UK Registered eligible exhibit not exceeding 153cms and the highest placed CHAPS UK Registered eligible exhibit exceeding 153cms, which has not already qualified from within the rosette placings. The relevant ridden box on the qualification card must be signed for the qualification to be valid. Exhibits to be shown plaited and trimmed.

H19 The CHAPS (UK) Native, Cob, Traditional Open Ridden Qualifier. Open to native, cob, traditional, vanner exhibits, any height, 4 years old and over. Rider any age but suitable for height of exhibit (except for stallions). Qualification will be awarded to the highest placed CHAPS UK Registered eligible exhibit not exceeding 148cms and the highest placed CHAPS UK Registered eligible exhibit exceeding 148cms, which has not already qualified from within the rosette placings. The relevant ridden box on the qualification card must be signed for the qualification to be valid. To be shown either with full mane, tail and feathered or hogged and trimmed as appropriate.
CHAMPIONSHIP: 1st and 2nd prize winners from classes 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19 to be judged for the TACK UP Perpetual Trophy (7), to be held by the winner for one year.

SHOW HUNTER PONY CLASSES

H20. LEADING REIN PONY OF SHOW HUNTER TYPE, mare or gelding, 4 years old and over , not exceeding 122cm. Riders not to have attained their 8th birthday before 1st January 2017. To be led by an attendant and shown in a snaffle bridle, the lead rein to be attached by the noseband only. Prizes in this class kindly donated by Mr & Mrs George Nixon

H22. PONY OF SHOW HUNTER TYPE EXCEEDING 122cm BUT NOT EXCEEDING 133cm, mare or gelding, 4 years and over. Riders not to have attained their 14th birthday before 1st January 2017.
H23. PONY OF SHOW HUNTER TYPE EXCEEDING 133cm BUT NOT EXCEEDING 143cm, mare or gelding, 4 years and over. Riders not to have attained their 17th birthday before 1st January 2017.

CHAMPIONSHIP: 1st and 2nd prize-winners from classes 20, 21, 22 and 23 to be judged for a Perpetual Challenge Cup (8), presented by Mervyn Beattie, to be held by the winner for one year.

DALES PONIES

THIS SHOW IS AFFILIATED WITH THE DALES PONY SOCIETY. All ponies MUST be registered with this Society. Name and registration number MUST be supplied with the entry form and printed in the catalogue.

A DALES PONY SOCIETY SPECIAL/PERFORMANCE ROSETTE OFFERED BY THE DALES PONY SOCIETY FOR THE BEST REGISTERED DALES PONY SHOWN IN-HAND AND BEST REGISTERED RIDDEN EXHIBITS SHOWN BY AN EXHIBITOR WHO PRODUCES A CURRENT MEMBERSHIP CARD IN THE RING. THESE CLASSES FORM PART OF THE DALES PONY SOCIETY STALLION PREMIUM SCHEME.

Class 29 is a qualifier for the P (UK) Winter Classic 2017 and P(UK) Supreme Championship 2017 Kingsford M&M Ridden Pony of the Year Supreme Championship.
H29. BEST RIDDEN DALES PONY stallion mare or gelding, 4 years and over, rider any age, to be shown in traditional walk and trot only.

YOUNGSTOCK CHAMPIONSHIP: 1st and 2nd prizewinners from classes 25, 27, and 28. The winner will hold the Lewington Trophy (11) for one year
CHAMPIONSHIP: 1st and 2nd prize winners from classes 24 to 29 inclusive will be judged for the J. Hall Silver Challenge Cup (12) to be held by the winner for one year. Champion and reserve to go on to the Mountain and Moorland Overall Championship.

MOUNTAIN AND MOORLAND PONIES

THESE CLASSES ARE ALL AFFILIATED TO P(UK). This show is a qualifier for the P(UK) Winter Classic 2018 and the Supreme Championships 2018. The 1st, 2nd & 3rd placed horses/ponies in each class will qualify. Competitors in qualifying positions, who are not current Adult Members, must become a member before time of entry. Qualification cards will be awarded in the ring and Golden Tickets will be given to the winner/champion of each flat ridden affiliated section. Dartmoor Pony Society rosettes will be presented to the highest placed registered Dartmoor in each class shown by a member of the Dartmoor Pony Society carrying a current membership card.

Exmoor Pony Society rosettes for the highest placed registered Exmoor in each class, shown by a current member of the Exmoor Pony Society.

Classes 30, 31, 32 and 33 are restricted to registered Dartmoor, Exmoor, Welsh sections A and B ponies only. Registered names and numbers and breed MUST be given on the entry form. This show is affiliated to the Dartmoor Pony Society and the Exmoor Pony Society.

Classes 30 and 31 are qualifiers for the P(UK) Winter Classic 2018 and P(UK) Supreme Championship 2018. Glyn Greenwood M&M In Hand Supreme Championship.
H30. REGISTERED SMALL BREED MOUNTAIN AND MOORLAND PONY 4 YEARS AND OVER stallion mare or gelding to be shown in hand.
H31. REGISTERED SMALL BREED MOUNTAIN AND MOORLAND PONY 1, 2 OR 3 YEARS OLD colt filly or gelding to be shown in hand.

Classes 32 and 33 are qualifiers for the P(UK) Winter Classic 2017 and P(UK) Supreme Championship 2018. Glyn Greenwood M&M In Hand Supreme Championship.

H32. REGISTERED LARGE BREED MOUNTAIN AND MOORLAND PONY 4 YEARS AND OVER stallion mare or gelding to be shown in hand.
H33. REGISTERED LARGE BREED MOUNTAIN AND MOORLAND PONY 1, 2 OR 3 YEARS OLD colt filly or gelding to be shown in hand.

Class 34 is a qualifier for the P (UK) Winter Classic 2018 and P(UK) Supreme Championship 2018. Kingsford M&M Ridden Pony of the Year Supreme Championship
H34. REGISTERED SMALL BREED MOUNTAIN AND MOORLAND PONY UNDER SADDLE stallion mare or gelding four years and over, rider any age.
Class 33 is a qualifier for the P(UK) Winter Classic 2017 and P(UK) Supreme Championship 2017. Lobster Pot Lead Rein Supreme Championship. This class is open to registered Dartmoor, Exmoor, Welsh Sections A and B and New Forest Ponies.
H35a LEAD REIN MOUNTAIN AND MOORLAND, 4 years and over, not exceeding 122cm. Riders not to have attained their 9th birthday before 1st January 2017. To be shown in a snaffle bridle led by an attendant, lead rein to be attached to the noseband only. Winner and 2nd to go forward to the Mountain & Moorland Overall Championship. Rosettes for all competitors.
H35b CHILDS FIRST RIDDEN MOUNTAIN AND MOORLAND, 4 years and over, not exceeding 122cm. Riders not to have attained their 12th birthday before 1st January 2017. Walk and trot only. Winner and 2nd to go forward to the Mountain & Moorland Overall Championship. Rosettes for all competitors.
YOUNG RIDERS CHAMPTIONSHIP: 1st and 2nd prize winners from classes H35a and H35b to be judged

Classes 32, 33 and 36 are restricted to registered Connemara, Highland, New Forest and Welsh Sections C and D ponies. Registered names numbers and breed must be given on the entry form.

Class 36 is a qualifier for the P(UK) Winter Classic 2018 and P(UK) Supreme Championship 2018. Kingsfold M&M Ridden Pony of the Year Supreme Championship

The 1st, 2nd & 3rd placed horses/ponies in each class will qualify. Competitors in qualifying positions, who are not current Adult Members, must become a member before time of entry. Three year old fillies with foals at foot may not be shown. All foals must be a minimum of  3 weeks old on the day of the Show

PLEASE NOTE: Children under the age of 14 years on the day of the Show may not show colts (excluding foals) or entire males in In – hand classes. Children under 11 years on the day of the Show may not show entire males in ridden classes. In the interests of safety BSI Approved hard hats, properly fastened, must be worn by all handlers aged 14 or under in In-hand classes. Properly fastened hard hats must be worn by all exhibitors irrespective of age in ridden classes. In ridden classes, if a rider falls off at any time whilst in the ring, both pony and rider must leave the ring, rider dismounted and takes no further part. .

H57. LEAD REIN MARE OR GELDING four years and over, riders not to have attained their 9th birthday before 1st January 2017. To be shown in a snaffle bridle, led by an attendant, lead rein to be attached to the noseband only. The winner will receive Mr. P Robson Trophy (28).  The Mr. P Robson Trophy (27) to be held for one year by the youngest rider in this class. The winner will receive a  society rosette. H58. YOUNG HANDLER 15 YEARS AND UNDER To be run in accordance with Shetland Pony Studbook Society rules, mares and geldings only. All young handlers, must wear a current standard BSI approved hard hat properly fastened, at all times. H82. 10KM SHOW DRIVE / MINI-MARATHON over a stewarded, marked course, covering a range of terrain from roads and grass to fell, may include a water hazard. Followed by a short, timed obstacle course in the show ring on return to the show field. The Bowes Show Challenge Trophy (35) to be held for one year by the winner. Under 16s must be accompanied on the carriage by a responsible adult. This class is open to competitors 14 years and over, horses/ponies 4 years and over.
BDS Show Drive rosettes which are collected for the cumulative Red Rover Award are only awarded for a completed Show Drive. Turnouts must be inspected by the judge before going out on to the road.

DONKEY CLASSES

 H85 MARES 4 YEARS AND OVER AND BROODMARES 5 YEARS AND OVER The winner will receive a The Strawberry Bay Clothing Company Perpetual Cup (44) together with a keepsake Trophy

 H86 FILLIES, COLTS AND GELDINGS AGED 1 TO 3 YEARS.  The winner will receive the Country Folk of Bamburgh Perpetual Cup (47) together with a keepsake Trophy.  Prize money in this class is kindly donated by Mrs A Hutchinson.

 CHAMPIONSHIP CLASS.

 1st and 2nd Prize Winners in classes H84,H85, H86 will be judged for the Bowes In Hand Championship, the winner of which qualifies for the Donkey Breed Society Supreme Championship Show in August 2018. If the Champion Donkey has already qualified, the Reserve Champion will be deemed the Qualifier. The In Hand Champion will also receive the Polly Grey Perpetual Trophy kindly donated by Mrs A Hutchinson, together with a Champion Sash kindly donated by Strawberry Bay Clothing Company.

 SPECIAL PRIZE

Best Youngstock Donkey: Will receive a Perpetual Cup together  with a keepsake Trophy kindly donated by Country Folk of Bamburgh.

TRADITIONAL GYPSY COBS

Judge: Mrs H Horsfall, Todmorden, Lancs
Judging 2.00 pm

The show is affiliated to The Traditional Gypsy Cob Association (GB) and all in hand and ridden classes are qualifiers for the TGCA National Championships. TGCA classes in hand or ridden are open to anyone unless showing a stallion. All stallions 4 years old and over must be licensed with the TGCA prior to the Show. In order to qualify for the TGCA National Championships all exhibits must be registered with TGCA and exhibitors and owners must be fully paid up members either prior to or within 21 days of the show date for that qualification to be valid. Members who are registered prior to the Show must have their qualification cards present in the ring for the judge to sign for the qualification to be valid.

All ridden and in hand stallions must wear a TGCA bridle number when competing.
All stallions and colts must be bitted when competing in an in hand class.
No foals are permitted to enter any in hand classes.
Qualification in each class goes to the first three exhibits who have not already qualified, unless the class has twelve or more exhibits, then qualification will go to the first six exhibits who have not already qualified.

These classes are open to both coloured and solid Gypsy Cobs with a ‘best solid’ rosette being awarded the highest placed solid in each class. A rosette is awarded to the highest placed TGCA member in each class.

H87 YOUNGSTOCK IN HAND TRADITIONAL GYPSY COB. This class is open to colts, fillies and geldings aged 1,2and 3 years old.

TGCA Quest For A Star Championship. First and second placed from each of the Gypsy Cob classes (H87 – H89b) may take part. The champion and reserve champion qualify to go forward to the TGCA Ultimate Star Championship finals at TOYS. (TGCA – Traditional of the Year Show) Only licensed stallions wearing TGCA discs may take part in the Quest for a Star Championship class. The winner will also receive the Bowes Show Traditional Gypsy Cob Trophy (41) to be held for one year only.

APPALOOSAS
